Mercedes did a custom piece for an important client of mine that I was sending as a thank-you/happy holidays gift, and she not only created the arrangement and delivered it the same day, but it was absolutely beautiful! She created something truly artistically stunning, and was kind enough to send a photo of the arrangement to me so I could see what it looked like when finished. 10/10 I'm definitely going to her for any floral needs that matter.

The anniversary flowers were delivered, and while a lovely array they were limp and looked a bit dry. We emailed the owner and she immediately returned with a second bouquet of roses that were perfect. She called us a bit later to explain that the Wild Texas flowers were delivered that morning and they are always a bit dry upon arrival. She said the bouquet would open and look brighter in a few hours. She was 100% correct. Day two the flowers look brighter and have opened a bit. We give her an A+ for amazing service and beautiful arrangements.

Mercedes was absolutely wonderful to work with and has the BEST floral arrangements. My partner and I celebrated our 14th anniversary at the Austin Proper and I wanted to surprise her with 100 red roses. These roses were absolutely stunning and Mercedes took care of coordinating with the hotel to make sure it was a beautiful surprise with the gorgeous flowers waiting for us upon entering our room. Thank you Mercedes for helping make our anniversary so memorable!

I have been working on the west coast and the distance has really been getting to me and my partner. I could tell she needed a little pick me up and I wanted to let her know I was thinking about her. I went online and found this lovely bouquet, with the mauve and the purple. Well, long story short the flowers brought my girlfriend to tears and she was so grateful and thought they were so beautiful. Mercedes and her team went ABOVE and BEYOND for our special and memorable occasion. It was my daughter's first concert with her favorite musician, Anne Wilson, in Houston. I shared my daughter would be meeting Anne in person prior to the show, and the flowers are for her. Without my knowledge and to our surprise, Mercedes did her research and designed the most beautiful arrangement inspired by Anne's music. My daughter was so excited to make sure the flowers were well cared for on the trip. This gesture of kindness made the trip to our first concert together so special, and the look of awe when my daughter gave Anne the flowers is a memory that we will never forget. Thank you Mercedes and your team for setting the bar so high. My daughter and I will cherish this memory forever.

OUR STORY
Once upon a time in a place far, far away a woman named Mercedes Gaytan Cortazar designed beautiful floral arrangements for all her friends and family. Soon after, it became her passion along with caring for her three amazing children.
As time went by, Mercedes decided to make a living out of her passion and Florería Mercedes opened its doors in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Mercedes went on to become one Chihuahua’s premier florists. As she saw her children grow up, she hoped that one of them would carry on her legacy of what had become her very successful business; Mercedes Flowers. But as one became a poet, another, an actress, and her eldest, a ballerina, she feared her passion would not be carried on long after she was gone.
But one day the ballerina, her eldest, who also happened to be her namesake, Mercedes Cortazar, began tying those ribbons and cutting the stems off of flowers and decorating as if she had been doing it all her life. Soon she opened her own business and her mother’s legacy, Mercedes Flowers lived on. After 35 years, Mercedes retired, leaving the trade that she loved so much. It seemed as though this time, Mercedes Flowers tradition would cease.
However, in 2011, Mercedes' third daughter who also happened to be her namesake, Mercedes, decided to carry on the family tradition and bring it to the Austin community. After all, Austin had become home ever since the third generation Mercedes was a student at the University of Texas, where she earned a degree in broadcast journalism. Although it has been almost six decades and three generations since the original Mercedes Flowers (Floreria Mercedes) opened its doors in Chihuahua, Mexico, the tradition once again proudly lives on.

Mercedes is a native Texan and spent much of her life in El Paso. Throughout her life, Mercedes embarked on different career paths before deciding to hang her hat in the corporate world and pursue her true calling. Embracing her entrepreneurial spirit, she followed her destiny into the world of flowers.
Growing up in the flower business, Mercedes developed a passion at a very early age. Watching her grandmother and mother make a life out of designing floral concepts inspired Mercedes to carry on the tradition, and a longtime passion for flowers, art and design has led her on this journey to revive the family business.
