Mercedes is a native Texan and spent much of her life in El Paso. Throughout her life, Mercedes embarked on different career paths before deciding to hang her hat in the corporate world and pursue her true calling. Embracing her entrepreneurial spirit, she followed her destiny into the world of flowers. Growing up in the flower business, Mercedes developed a passion at a very early age. Watching her grandmother and mother make a life out of designing floral concepts inspired Mercedes to carry on the tradition, and a longtime passion for flowers, art and design has led her on this journey to revive the family business.

We create more than just signature floral styling, we create unique works of floral art. Our namesake symbolizes the lasting commitment to passed down for three generations: Each arrangement is custom-made, based on your vision, to harmonize any and every special event. OUR STORY
Once upon a time in a place far, far away a woman named Mercedes Gaytan Cortazar designed beautiful floral arrangements for all her friends and family. Soon after, it became her passion along with caring for her three amazing children.
As time went by, Mercedes decided to make a living out of her passion and Florería Mercedes opened its doors in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Mercedes went on to become one Chihuahua’s premier florists. As she saw her children grow up, she hoped that one of them would carry on her legacy of what had become her very successful business; Mercedes Flowers. But as one became a poet, another, an actress, and her eldest, a ballerina, she feared her passion would not be carried on long after she was gone.
But one day the ballerina, her eldest, who also happened to be her namesake, Mercedes Cortazar, began tying those ribbons and cutting the stems off of flowers and decorating as if she had been doing it all her life. Soon she opened her own business and her mother’s legacy, Mercedes Flowers lived on. After 35 years, Mercedes retired, leaving the trade that she loved so much. It seemed as though this time, Mercedes Flowers tradition would cease.
However, in 2011, Mercedes' third daughter who also happened to be her namesake, Mercedes, decided to carry on the family tradition and bring it to the Austin community. After all, Austin had become home ever since the third generation Mercedes was a student at the University of Texas, where she earned a degree in broadcast journalism. Although it has been almost six decades and three generations since the original Mercedes Flowers (Floreria Mercedes) opened its doors in Chihuahua, Mexico, the tradition once again proudly lives on.

What happens if the recipient isn’t home?
If the recipient isn’t available, our driver will either leave the flowers in a safe spot or, if needed, arrange a re-delivery at a later time.

How do I make my flowers last longer?
Trim the stems, place them in fresh water, and keep the arrangement in a cool spot away from direct sunlight to extend their life.
